Galen Medal

Claude Galien (129-200 AD) - is the most prominent and known doctor, writer, and naturalist of the Ancient Rome.

The author of plenty authoritative compositions on philosophy, mathematics, jurisprudence, medicine and pharmacy.

Galien considered the Nature as the basic source of knowledge and the infallible teacher of the truth, his statement runs: "The physician is the nature's assistant", "Everything, that is created by the nature, is excellent", "Heed the words describing surprising secrets of the nature."

There were written about 400 works by Galien, including the ones on the medicine that played an enormous role in development of the European and Arabian medieval medicine. Tens generations of doctors studied and practised with a help of these works. For today's generation of doctors, Galien's works - the basic source of data on antique medicine.

Galien, known also as "the drugs connoisseur", has initiated a scientific pharmacy, including naturo- and phytopharmacy. He has described 304 medicinal agents of herbal, 80 - of an animal and 60 - of a mineral origin.

It was he who for the first time systematized techniques of medicinal agents' preparation out of herbal raw material and standardized the preparation technology of infusions, broths, tinctures, extracts, and other medicinal forms. Galien's new preparations carry his name till now and have not lost at all the practical value in modern medicine.

The medal of his name is founded by the Noncommercial organization "Professional Association of Naturotherapists" in 2009 with the purpose to recognize outstanding merits and achievements of the Winner in the field of world naturotherapy and naturopharmacy.
